Ghanche Pays Tribute to Mountaineering Legend of Pakistan, Little Karim

District Administration Ghanche on Monday named an important public square in the Khaplu city after the famous mountaineer Little Karim. The announcement appeared on Facebook page of District Administration Office Ghanche. In a simple yet memorable ceremony held at the Little Karim Square,  the living legend Little Karim himself inaugurated the landmark in the presence of member Gilgit-Baltistan Council Sultan Ali Khan and Deputy Commissioner Ghanche Adeel Haider. A large number of public also gathered to pay tribute to the elderly mountaineer for his decade’s long role in promoting mountaineering as sports and the services he has rendered for international tourists,  which encourage the international tourists to visit GB despite limited facilities and sources of communication.

Mr. Muhammad Karim popularly known as “Little Karim” is a renowned high altitude mountaineer and porter from Husha Valley of District Ghanche. He is well known as legend of Karakorum having summitted K2, the second highest peak in the world after Mount Everest a total of nine times without supplemental Oxygen. French and Spanish filmmakers directed a number of documentaries to acknowledge the courage of Little Karim that won many accolades in Europe.
In a recent visit to Europe the old mountaineer was invited to different schools in Spain along the football star Leonal Messi to encourage children towards sports and leadership.
